But is money and always being ahead of your neighboring countries the only thing that matters? I think allowing smaller numbers of immigrants and having slower growth is better as it creates less tension between the locals and these new immigrants. According to the government, the rational for allowing these foreigners in is to ensure the economy remains competitive. To a certain extent that is true. But is money and always being ahead of your neighboring countries the only thing that matters? I think allowing smaller numbers of immigrants and having slower growth is better as it creates less tension between the locals and these new immigrants. Singapore is very small, and many of its people do not know what it is like to live in a big country. Their view of the world is narrow and they unfortunately think Singapore is like some jewel because they just don’t know better. It is probably the best place to live in SE Asia only because those other countries are decades behind Singapore. Usually the successful ones are English educated are less likely to speak Singlish, which is a stain on Singapore society. Lee Kuan Yew tried to eradicate Singlish but he failed. However my view is that they are not corrupt but that this is a very bad policy. Government should be considered public service where people work for the interests of the state. Many patriots in America work for the government in DC and they do it with much much lower pay. Why? Because there is something called patriotism and putting country ahead of personal interests.
