I have always known that! I have asthma, Bronchiectasis, Vocal Cord Dysfunction! I go to McKinney Medical, because the nurses know me, and take good care of me! I have to be hospitalized at least once a year! I had an aunt who was a nurse. Nothing timid or submissive about her. And the doctors she worked for knew it, gave her credit and depended on her. I work in a psych hospital. I love our doctors, but some of them wouldn’t even come on the units in the beginning and just asked us to assess them and tell them what we thought. Uhhhh already did that…that’s why I’m calling you. Just put the PPE on and get on the unit! Kinda funny kinda not. I am a strong woman and I have been a strong RN and.FNP. I am a New Yorker who lives in Florida..People.comment on my accent. .I am.an advocate for the underserved.and I speak my truth..Worked.with many infectious disease in my 50 years.of Nursing. Still.alive. I’ve been a nurse for 36 years and trust me, nurses are there to save doctors from killing you. A good nurse will recognize complications and subtle changes early and prevent them from getting worse. A good nurse will pick up on prescribing errors, drug interactions, and other oversights of physicians. Doctors are just too busy and distracted to avoid making mistakes. We are the patient’s last line of defense. We are the heart of healthcare. Nurses were never handmaids to doctors!!!! Nurses always showed junior nurses the ropes and then allowed themselves to be walked on when doctors ot a tad of experience!!! Academia would never/should never be allowed to over shadow hands on experience/ bedside manner!!!!
